Stay Still and Listen

Beliefs and thoughts are so powerful. Our mind can either be our best friend or our worst enemy.

The choices we make in our head can create the entire world that surrounds us. Do you believe this?

When you wake up in the morning do you take time to count your blessings and feel gratitude for waking up to a brand new day?

Do you step one foot at a time out of bed and feel the warmth and comfort of your hardwood floors or carpet? Do you appreciate your breathe, your two feet, ten toes and heart that is still pumping? Try it! Take a stretch and give your muscles a good morning kiss while feeling awareness as they wake up with the rest of your body. Do you say thank you for the little things that often get taken for granted?

Being aware of our mind, body and soul is a blessing on its own.

I can admit that sometimes I forget to be grateful... I've had mornings where I roll out of bed sounding like a broken record and complaining that I'm too tired, or that it's too cold and that I don't want to get up and get ready for work...  But I am aware of these moments, and every day is a new opportunity for me to change the patterns and habits that affect the rest of my day, my week..., and my life.

It's so easy to get caught up in negativity. It’s so easy to jump into grouchy mode and put all of our energy on the things that we don’t like or don’t want. It's so easy to complain rather than count our blessings. Ever have a conversation with someone that is stuck in a bad place and realize that instead of helping them by pointing out the good, you join the rant and lose your own gratitude in the process?

The words that come out of our mouth are like a ripple in a quiet lake. They will change everything that is in just one splash or drop. That kind of power intimidates me sometimes. The famous saying to speak your mind can crush the opportunity to be still and wait. To listen and let be what is, or could be. To accept and to love unconditionally.

There's a harmony like no other that can only be found in choosing to not speak and blurt out the first thing our pride wants us to shout. Try spending one full day being aware of how many times the ego interrupts people in conversation. Try spending a whole day with a goal to not interrupt a single soul. I guarantee you it will be a challenge.

We are all so eager to share our point of view of what we know or what we feel. And most times we are jumping in conversations to interrupt, thinking that we are doing the other person a favor; that what we have to say is going to advantage both parties. But most times this is how great ideas or opinions get lost. What if what that other person was going to say could have deepened your connection, friendship or relationship... To truly respect someone is to truly listen to them. To put the ego on the back burner and let the present moment shine in its purity.

It’s not easy to do and it takes practice but it is well worth the patience and determination. What would the world be like if we all lived in that kind and gentle peace of mind?

What would happen if we could all see the beauty in everyone no matter how much negative energy they may be throwing our way? What would happen if we learned to accept the words and actions that take place around us whether good or bad, stayed still instead of jumping in to take action?

There's something magical that happens when stillness and awareness replace the urge to interrupt. When a choice is made to let words and thoughts sit quiet in our mind and absorb what’s happening on the outside instead.

Being grateful for what we have and giving to others by practicing stillness, by giving them the opportunity to go through the motions of whatever it is that they are going through with no judgement.

I'm so fascinated by people and I have found a lot of wisdom though watching and listening. Letting things sit and taking my time. There is no rush. Life will happen. Just as it should.

I am learning, I am growing, and I want to cherish each day for what it is no matter what! I want to cherish the people in my life no matter what! Soaking it all up as is, with an open heart and loving eyes. Namaste~the light within me honors the light within you.
